Lutheran Hillside Village has been certified by Vohra Wound Physicians as a Center of Excellence for Wound Management. Since 2017, Lutheran Hillside Village has partnered with Dr. Christopher Dickinson, a Vohra wound physician, to create an interdisciplinary team that works with primary care physicians, physical therapists, staff nurses, and other specialists to ensure residents receive excellent wound care. Only 10 percent of Vohra’s skilled nursing facility partners qualify for this annual certification “We place a top priority on healing and rehabilitating residents ourselves and returning them to their homes instead of admitting them to a hospital,” said Tricia LeMaire, Director of Nursing at Lutheran Hillside Village. “Now we are equipped to treat chronic and complex wounds with our specialized wound-management program. The results have been amazing.”
Dr. Dickinson has brought physician-led bedside wound care to Lutheran Hillside Village through weekly visits to treat residents with wound and skin issues. This reduces the need to send residents out to wound care centers or hospitals. The multi-specialty team at Lutheran Hillside Village treats all types of wounds, including pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, arterial wounds, diabetic neuropathic wounds, post-surgical wounds, and others. “As long-term care communities continue to provide more specialized services for complex ailments, the presence of a wound physician is an important link in providing superior care,” LeMaire added. “To qualify for the certification, we had to achieve a less than one-percent wound-related hospitalization rate for the year. We’ve done that, which is quite an accomplishment.”
