Whether you are shopping around for options in senior living, or exploring on behalf of another person, it can be overwhelming. “What’s offered at each community can differ greatly,” says Allison Marlow, Senior Living Counselor at Lutheran Hillside Village. “With such a wide variety and a growing demand, there is a definite benefit to being informed.”
Independent living
Living settings range from apartments to patio homes of various floor plans. Community spaces offer opportunities to expand friendship circles and participate in life-long learning — all in a culture that promotes and supports spiritual growth.
Assisted living/residential care
Residents benefit from 24-hour staffing, help with personal care, prepared meals, medication assistance, weekly housekeeping, and other offered services. A variety of activities and exercise programs are available to meet individual needs and interests.
Memory care assisted living
Those with Alzheimer’s disease or other memory impairments receive specifically designed living spaces and supporting environments. The staff in memory care is trained to assist residents. Some communities may even offer special memory programs to help reduce the signs of Alzheimer’s or memory impairments.
Skilled care/care center/long-term care
For residents who need 24-hour nursing care, the care center is overseen by licensed nurses. They provide care with nurturing relationships as residents continue to live life to the fullest.
Short-stay/short-term rehab
Recovering from a qualified hospital procedure is made comfortable in home-like settings. Through a program of individualized therapy and care and with a team of professionals, goals are achieved.
