The holiday season is memorable. There are family and friends, traditions, and all those warm and fuzzy feelings that come with the first snowfall. But it gets chaotic. It gets hectic. And sometimes, it’s out of control.

Maybe our predecessors knew of the forthcoming craziness that Christmas would bring. Maybe they themselves were feeling the strain. Either way, beginning in the 19th century, Advent Calendars began popping up. Featuring “windows” or “doors” that are opened beginning December 1 and holding a Bible verse, picture, or sweet treat, these calendars mark the days leading up to Christmas.

If you are already feeling overwhelmed and tired of the Christmas season, refocus with an Advent of Generosity. Twenty-five days of giving back to others in your community with your time and talents that will make this Christmas extra special. Some opportunities even have a space to insert someone specific who’s been on your mind.
