Dentures and dental bridges are both life changing options for many people. They make it easier for those with missing teeth to smile, eat, and speak. But dentists and patients alike are raving about another option: dental implants. Dental implants have many advantages over traditional tooth replacement options and over three million people are already reaping the benefits.

Dental Implants Work
A significant advantage of implants is that they have a high success rate. In fact, when they’re placed by a skilled dentist, they have a 95–98 percent chance of being successful. A crown has an 80 percent chance of lasting a decade and dentures aren’t likely to last for more than eight years.

Tooth Implants Prevent Jawbone Shrinkage
When you have a space in your smile, your jawbone no longer gets the stimulation it needs from regular chewing and biting. Because of this, the jawbone will begin to shrink. This often leaves people who are missing teeth with a more aged appearance as a result of losing facial structure. This means sunken cheeks and wrinkled lips. Dental implants are currently the only tooth restoration option that maintains the integrity of the jawbone. This is because the titanium implant is inserted directly into the jaw and replaces the natural root of the tooth. It fuses to the bone in a process called “osseointegration” which prevents shrinkage over time.

Implants Are Comfortable
Because the implant fuses with your jawbone, you don’t need to worry about slipping or sliding like you do with ill-fitting dentures. You will be able to eat all of your favorite foods and speak without a worry in the world. Implants have a bite force just as strong as your natural teeth, so nothing needs to be eliminated from your diet.

Dental Implants Are Long Lasting
Implants last much longer than other tooth replacement options. On average, dentures last between 8–10 years before they need to be replaced. Bridges tend to last slightly longer at 12 years. However, when cared for correctly, dental implants can last upwards of 25 years.

Tooth Implants Look Natural
The artificial tooth that is placed on the end of the implant is customized to match the exact size, shape, and color needed to seamlessly blend in with the rest of your smile. No one will even know that you have an implant unless you tell them. You will be able to smile, talk, and eat with confidence.

Even though each restoration option has its benefits, patients often prefer dental implants. With all the amazing benefits, it’s no wonder that they are so common among people who are missing teeth. It may be time to ask about implants.
