The spine is the major highway of all your nervous systems. A misaligned spine, which is a condition where part of the spine is out of position, can not only cause discomfort or pain, but can also cause problems with other areas of your body—not just your back. These problems occur when there are interruptions in the normal communication of information between the brain and the body. Chiropractic care helps restore the body’s natural structure to its optimal state as it was before lifestyle, injury, or other circumstances have caused it to become misaligned. But how does a chiropractor determine if the spine is out of alignment and more importantly, how can it be corrected?

There are many reasons why the spine may get out of alignment. Some are obvious—like a sudden injury—but most of the time, the spine gradually gets out of whack over time due to lifestyle factors such as poor posture, inactivity, repetitive motions, obesity, and stress. In fact, people likely don’t even realize that their spine is out of alignment until they begin to experience symptoms. The most common symptom is back pain. But other symptoms may include a stiff neck, fatigue, headaches, muscle spasms, joint pain, and numbness or tingling.

Chiropractors may utilize a variety of methods for determining which parts of the spine are out of position. One of the newest and most effective tools is Pulstar Multiple Impulse Therapy (MIT), an instrument used to scan the body to pinpoint the trouble spots. There are many different parts to the spine and there may be several segments that require correcting.

PulStar uses a computer-controlled hand-held device to analyze the spine and detect problem areas. It then displays a graphic representation on the computer screen that shows the functioning of the joints. On the screen, red and yellow markers will indicate problem areas. This information will be evaluated, along with the medical history of the patient and other diagnostic methods, to determine the most effective course of treatment to get the best possible results in the shortest amount of time.

Once the spinal areas to be corrected are located, the Pulstar tool can be used to give a series of precise, gentle impulses to the specific areas of musculoskeletal misalignment. Patients often experience reduced pain in three to four visits. The benefits of Pulstar adjusting treatment include:

  • Easy to diagnose and track the problems to decide the treatment course
  • Evaluation and manipulations can be done by lying down, standing, or sitting
  • Precise analysis of the spine condition and function of the vertebrae is possible
  • Only gentle force is used rather than the heavier force used in manual adjustments
  • An evaluation after the treatment is performed helps to know the improvement
  • Pulstar adjusting is suitable for patients who do not like manual adjustments

It is important to keep the spine healthy, as it is the center of the body and connects to everything, either directly or via the nervous system. Chiropractic adjustments are a safe, natural, and effective procedure to help keep the body in prime condition and reduce or eliminate pain.
