Nestled in the heart of Davenport, Silvercrest Garner Retirement Community has been a staple in the community since the doors opened in December of 1999. With newly remodeled and ever evolving Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care apartments, Silvercrest Garner gives ample opportunity and a lovely environment for seniors to age in place surrounded by friends and dedicated staff. With the support of our management company, Dial Senior Living, Silvercrest Garner is privileged to provide top notch senior living care in the greater Quad Cities area.
Recently, Silvercrest Garner Farms Assisted Living underwent an extensive remodel of all common areas. These areas included the lobby/reception area, activities spaces, library, dining room, corridors, visiting alcoves, employee breakrooms, and administrative offices. This investment was a labor of love for current residents while also looking forward to create a beautiful space future residents, families, and staff will enjoy for years to come.
“Our primary goal with the remodel at Garner Farms was to create a fresh and modern aesthetic,” Jacqueline Lovato, Planning and Design Manager for Dial Senior Living stated. Three primary factors contributed to this goal. The first was a complete reconfiguration of the lobby area and dining room. The addition of a formal reception desk and architectural screens have paired function and visual interest to the primary common areas. Residents have greatly enjoyed the new dining area, which gives the feel of a bright and open restaurant setting with all the comforts of delicious meals served three times a day. Residents many times venture down early and stay late to visit with friends and enjoy “one more” cup of coffee with their homemade dessert.
The second was a complete overhaul of interior finishes. Neutral paint, earth tone floor coverings, and dark casework were chosen to create a clean modern feel, and colorful textiles and artwork have helped breathe new life into the building. Residents have greatly enjoyed watching new artwork be displayed and trying out the stylish and most importantly, comfortable new furniture.
Finally, the corridors received new LED lighting. While many feel this may not be the most exciting part of any project, improved lighting plays a big role in making spaces feel new. Silvercrest Garner Farms now certainly feels like a newer build, while still being able to offer an established and stable home setting for our residents, with all the amenities and services senior living has to offer at an affordable price point.
When planning for this project and keeping the comfort, safety, and satisfaction of our current residents in mind, having the perfect partner in regards to construction and development was of the utmost importance. The design team was able to find that with Twin Shores Management locally based out of East Moline, they helped make the vision come to life while being cognizant and respectful of the space they were working in.
“The Twin Shores single source delivery model was able to effectively modernize the Silvercrest Garner Farms facility within an aggressive timeframe by monitoring concurrent activities and adjusting throughout multiple phases of construction,” said Tom Hepner, Senior Project Manager at Twin Shores Management, “The space came alive as the warm colors and new lighting was systematically installed. All work was completed while the building was fully occupied. I witnessed immediate results in staff, residents, and even the construction workers—it was truly a great project to be part of.”
Both residents and staff agree and have felt the positive effects of a newer and brighter space to live and work. Larger activity areas were created for the enjoyment of residents to be able to convene together for group activities and family get togethers. Recently, residents have loved getting back to large group exercise classes, resident council meetings, and a variety of other creative and fun activities that are inspired by the residents who live at Silvercrest Garner and implemented by our incredible LifeStyles team. We have also added several large flat screen TVs throughout the community to showcase special events and what is happening in the community day to day for our residents and their families.
Visiting alcoves have been set up in each corridor of the community with a mixture of layouts conducive to visiting with loved ones in relaxed and cozy seating or sitting at a table setting to play a game of cards or complete a puzzle. Common areas are an extension of our resident apartments and it is our hope residents of Garner Farms and their visitors will feel as though the common areas in the community are theirs to use for their hosting pleasure and enjoyment.
“Overall, the feel of Silvercrest Garner Farms since the remodel is brighter,” commented Community Senior Living Advisor, Tressa Hart Daehn, “The reconfiguration of the receptionist desk makes visitors feel more welcome as they enter and many of them have commented how beautiful the natural light throughout the community is. When I show someone around Garner Farms for the first time, I feel so much pride in what our beautiful community has to offer to seniors in the Quad Cities area.”
No senior living community has been immune to the reality of the current COVID-19 pandemic and Silvercrest Garner is no exception. However, the remodel has given the residents and staff something to focus on and be excited about. Many of our residents loved watching the construction unfold and seeing how much could get done in one day. One or two residents with a construction background may have even given a few pointers. Family of our residents also have enjoyed seeing the progress and the plans coming to fruition. The most important aspect of the remodel was for residents to love and accept the modern changes while still feeling like they were in the place they call home during a tumultuous time. We truly feel at Silvercrest Garner the remodel fulfilled that promise to our residents and their families. They are greatly enjoying this new space and all it has to offer and loving the way they live!
It is also an exciting time to mention that Silvercrest Garner is not done yet. There is a Phase 2 of the Garner Farms remodel. The public restrooms will be completely remodeled as well as the beauty salon. Residents will be delighted to have a state-of-the-art beauty salon in Garner Farms to use whenever a little pampering is needed. There are also plans to continue moving forward with updates as needed in our Independent Living buildings. Silvercrest Garner and our management company, Dial Senior Living, take the privilege of providing senior living seriously. When it comes to our residents, always going the extra mile is imperative when making sure they are satisfied with the place they call home.
