One of the longest running practices in the Quad Cities, The
GROUP, Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists PC, takes pride in
providing comprehensive care of women’s health, and has done so for 36
years. “We are proud to have been treating the women of the Quad Cities
for so many years,” says Dr. Rita Aronson.  “Exceptional expertise and
collaboration between doctors is what makes us special.”

One of
the reasons our office is called “The Group” is because of the wonderful
combination of practitioners we have to fit your needs. There are seven
board-certified OB/Gyn physicians, five Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNM),
three Women’s Health Nurse Practitioners, and our very talented
Physician’s Assistant for your obstetrics and gynecology needs.

Obstetrical Care
You can choose to have your pregnancy followed by either the physicians
or nurse midwives. With this group setting, you are able to rotate
through the providers of your choice, so you will get to know each of
them prior to your birth; or can just follow one or two of the providers
for all your prenatal visits, if you prefer.  There will always be a
designated MD and CNM on-call and separate MD’s and CNM’s in the office
each day, to serve you in the best way possible. The GROUP has the
ability to treat higher risk obstetrics patients, that instead would be
sent out of town, which can save a lot of time and money for the
patient.

Obstetrics services include:

  • Pre-pregnancy planning
  • Normal and high risk pregnancy
  • Care of gestational diabetes
  • Care of twins and triplets
  • In-office ultrasounds and fetal monitoring
  • Physician and Midwifery services
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC)

Gynecological Services
The GROUP also offers many in office procedures for the convenience of
the patient, ablations, heavy menstrual bleeding and sterilizations, and
since you don’t have to go to the hospital, these procedures are only
half the cost, saving the patient and/or insurance hundreds, even
thousands of dollars. For your annual exams and visits, you may choose
one practitioner to see year after year, if you choose. Even if your
usual provider is not available, there is always a skilled practitioner
happy to help you address any unplanned health issues.

Gynecological Services Include:

  • Abnormal bleeding
  • Abnormal pap’s
  • Birth control
  • Endometriosis
  • Gardasil
  • Hormone replacement therapy
  • Menopause
  • Osteoporosis
  • Ovarian cyst
  • Pelvic pain
  • PMS
  • Prolapse
  • Sexually transmitted diseases
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Uterine fibroids
  • Vaginal infection
  • Midwifery

The GROUP has made a collaborative venture with the inclusion of
midwives and doctors in the same practice, which can be the best of both
worlds for the patient. Nurse Midwifery focuses on wellness and patient
choice.  Women are encouraged to make informed decisions about their
health care.  Certified Nurse Midwives welcomes your questions and takes
the time to listen to you. They believe the normal process of pregnancy
and birth is enhanced through education and supportive intervention
during labor. The Certified Nurse Midwife takes a low-risk, holistic
approach with a birthing plan. You may use an epidural or pain
medications as you may desire.  Your Nurse Midwife feels it is most
important that your childbirth be a safe satisfying experience.  If you
do have greater risks, the doctor can always see you in addition to your
midwife, and they can work together to you manage your care.

For many women, it’s the communication between the midwife and the
doctor, which is especially comforting. Camye Halvoson of Bettendorf,
who had a difficult first pregnancy, chose a midwife when she was
pregnant with her third child.  “It was comforting knowing that if
anything would happen, the doctors were there if the midwife needed
assistance,” said Camye.

“Because they are women, and mothers
going through life, I felt like they knew what I was going through. They
make sure they are aware of what’s going on and address your concerns.
Do you know that point in your appointment when you’re asked, ‘Do you
have any questions?’” Camye continues, “And you have questions, but
can’t remember what they are? Instead, they will tell you what to expect
about the next things you will be experiencing, so when it did happen
to me, I was very comforted in knowing that my Midwife said this would
be normal!”

The GROUP Midwifery Program offers:

  • Normal pregnancy care
  • Bedside labor support and delivery
  • Birth prep and planning visits
  • Family-centered care
    • Sibling involvement with prenatal visits
    • Partner involvement with labor and deliveries
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean section (VBAC)
  • Pre-pregnancy counseling

  • Implanon
  • LEEP

Surgery
The GROUP also offers the following surgical procedures:

Bone Density Test
In the United States, millions of women suffer from thinning bones;
and over half of the women are over 50. There are no visible symptoms of
thinning bones; you could be suffering from thinning bones and not even
know it. This is why The GROUP started offering the bone mineral
density (BMD) test to their patients. The BMD test is a quick, painless,
non-invasive procedure where a touchless scan, similar to an xray,
scans your body to measure your hip, spine, or total body to measure
your bone health. Once we have the results of your BMD test, or your
T-score, our doctors can recommend a course of action to improve your
bone health

3D/4D Ultrasound
The GROUP
also offers 3D/4D ultrasounds for our patients, which allow you to see
your baby’s face before he or she is born.  3D refers to the still
image/picture of your baby, and 4D is actually seeing your baby moving
on the screen.  The 3D/4D ultrasound is for entertainment purposes only
and will consist of 10-15 minutes of scanning time. We will be focusing
on acquiring a keepsake picture for you and your family. In order for
the sonographer to be able to acquire the best image with 3D/4D imaging,
it is preferred that you be at least 28 weeks along in your pregnancy.
You will cherish your 3D/4D ultrasound and enjoy an unparalleled bonding
experience that you will never forget.  Gretchen Theil from Bettendorf
had a great experience when she recently got her 3D/4D ultrasound. “It
was amazing,” says Gretchen. “It’s really like seeing your child for the
first time. He opened his eyes, his mouth, he moved his fingers and
hands.  It was a very reassuring experience. The pictures were put on
DVD and the video of him moving, and it’s just wonderful that we have
that forever.”

NovaSure
For women that
suffer from heavy menstrual bleeding, NovaSure is an option that is
available and offered through The GROUP.  As women get closer to
menopause, many begin to experience heavy and/or irregular bleeding.
NovaSure Endometrial Ablation (EA) is a simple, one-time, five-minute
procedure that has treated over one million women, without hormones or
hysterectomy.  NovaSure works by permanently removing part of the
endometrium, or lining of the uterus (the part that causes the bleeding)
with a quick delivery of radio frequency energy. NovaSure is a quick,
one-time procedure that can be done in the office with no anesthesia. No
pills need to be taken and there are no side effects.  The NovaSure
procedure allows women to continue with their daily lives without the
complications of heavy menstrual bleeding, both physically and
emotionally.

Essure
Essure is a permanent
method of birth control that’s offered at The GROUP.  The Essure
procedure is a surgery-free procedure in which the doctor places a soft,
flexible insert into each fallopian tube that blocks sperm from
reaching the egg. Essure is 99.8% effective based on four years of
clinical studies.  Essure is a safe birth control option where the
recovery time is minimal, especially when compared with the other
permanent birth control methods, such as tubal ligation.

The
GROUP Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists of Davenport, now has an
outreach clinic in Maquoketa at the Jackson County Hospital. “We are so
proud that we are an outreach facility providing obstetrics and
gynecological services to the residents of Maquoketa and Jackson
County,” says Dr. Kenneth Naylor.  “Now women don’t have to drive a
great distance and take time off work to get the basic prenatal and
obstetric care they need.”

Whether you come to us
for your obstetrical needs or gynecology concerns from adolescence
through menopause, The GROUP looks forward to serving you and the
community.  Call for an appointment at 563-355-1853.
