The Midwest is known as “America’s Heartland.” Revered for rich agriculture, rolling hills, and hardworking people, the Midwest is a great place to live, work and play.
Among Midwestern communities, the Quad Cities is a standout in health—thanks to top-notch, dedicated surgeons and innovative outpatient facilities. This past summer, Orthopaedic Specialists and Mississippi Valley Surgery Center welcomed Dr. Megan Crosmer, board-certified and fellowship-trained in Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, to the community.
For Dr. Crosmer, the Quad Cities was a perfect fit. “While I was born and raised in Florida, my parents grew up in the Midwest and the majority of my extended family lives in the Midwest so I always felt a connection to the area,” she said. “It was this connection that drove me to choose the Midwest for a significant portion of my medical training.”
Dr. Crosmer excelled in the Midwestern atmosphere that encouraged hard work, helping others, and a dedication to patient care. She graduated first in her class at the University of Michigan Medical School, and after completing her residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University in North Carolina, she returned to the Midwest for her Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, one of the top fellowship programs in the country. She was practicing at Jewett Orthopaedics in Orlando, Florida, when the Midwest called again.
“I was very excited to have the opportunity to join Orthopaedic Specialists as their Hand and Upper Extremity Specialist. Their commitment to patient care, teamwork, and desire to continuously improve and innovate fit perfectly with my values and goals,” Crosmer said
Utilizing current advances in surgery as well as both operative and non-operative techniques, Dr. Crosmer works with patients to develop a customized treatment plan to meet their recovery goals. Patients are taking note of her patient-centered care approach.
“The surveys we receive back on Dr. Crosmer tell a great story,” stated Brad Crowder, Executive Director at OS. “Patients are impressed with the amount of time she takes with them and her ability to assist them in making informed decisions on their treatment. Patients want a partner with their health, and Dr. Crosmer is excellent at performing in that role.”
“Patients come to see me because they have suffered some decline in their ability to do what they love, due to a traumatic event, arthritis, or an underlying condition,” Crosmer said. “As an orthopaedic surgeon, I have the unique opportunity to work with patients to restore their function and allow them to return to activities that make them happy and bring meaning to their lives. What a rewarding career!”
