The Genesis Imaging Centers installed a new, MAGNETOM® Aera MRI Unit by Siemens at its Bettendorf location. This new machine offers a more comfortable imaging experience, along with the latest technology.
Faster exam times. More imaging options. A wider, more comfortable experience for the patient. The latest technology. The list of benefits goes on, but the Genesis Imaging Centers didn’t need more to say “yes” and upgrade the MRI unit at the Bettendorf location. In September, the imaging center installed a new, MAGNETOM® Aera MRI machine by Siemens, improving the already exceptional care provided to patients.
More options for patients
The Genesis Imaging Centers already had an open-bore magnet at its Davenport location, and exams at the location were in high demand due to the comfort and options offered to patients. Administration and board members at the imaging centers recognized the need to provide more options to the community.
While the old MRI machine at the Bettendorf imaging center worked for some patients, many faced challenges due to their size, body shape, or claustrophobia. Exams on the old unit also took more time, running between 60 and 90 minutes.
“Many times, our staff would need to reschedule patients due to claustrophobia or the individual’s size,” explained Kim Dippel, manager of the Genesis Imaging Centers. “Many patients met the weight requirements but the build of their body prevented them from fitting in the machine. For our claustrophobic patients to lay still in a small, enclosed space for at least an hour is a lot to ask. Cancellations are inconvenient for the patient, their doctor, and our staff.”
Benefits of the MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5T Unit
The MAGNETOM® Aera offers doctors an array of diagnostic possibilities and provides patients with a more comfortable experience.
Like all MRI units, the MAGNETOM® Aera uses magnets that measure in Tesla (T) to acquire images. At 1.5T, the MAGNETOM® Aera offers superb image quality used for a wide range of medical needs — from orthopedic and sports-related injuries to brain and spine studies — and can help physicians make quicker, more accurate diagnoses.
The MAGNETOM® Aera boasts a 70 cm open bore — the tube-like structure of an MRI machine, where the patient lies during the imaging process — and can accommodate larger patients, up to 550 pounds. Additionally, the system’s ultra-short bore (145 cm) can alleviate concerns of claustrophobia since many exams can be performed with the patient’s head outside of the bore.
With the MAGNETOM® Aera MRI machine,
patients can expect the following:
- Faster exam times — between 30 and 45 minutes
- More appointment types and openings at the Bettendorf location
- Exclusive Siemens technologies — Tim™ 4G and Dot — for patient-centered care
- The ability to accommodate larger individuals (550 pound weight limit)
- A more comfortable experience for claustro-phobic patients with a wider bore and windows allowing natural light into the room
The outpatient advantage
Both Davenport and Bettendorf open-bore MRI units are located at outpatient imaging centers, offering convenience alongside comfort and quality.
In the outpatient setting, patients can expect on-time appointments, easy access to facilities and services, and timely results. MRI suites at the Genesis Imaging Centers have windows, offering natural light into the rooms which creates a more relaxing ambiance for the patient.
The imaging centers have more than just technology and convenience, they have staff dedicated to creating the best experience possible for the patient and referring healthcare providers. The scheduling team works with physicians and patients to find the most convenient appointments at the facility of his or her choice. The imaging technologists provide thorough explanations of the patient’s imaging exam, what to expect, and how to prepare prior to the individual’s visit.
“Not only is it important for us to provide convenient imaging services to our patients, but we are also committed to utilizing the best technology and equipment to offer accuracy and comfort to those we serve,” commented Bill Hauber, Chief Administrative Officer of Radiology Group. “We know that our patients and referring providers will appreciate all that the MAGNETOM® Aera MRI unit has to offer.”
