Every January, we pledge new resolutions to improve ourselves from the inside out. Some of the top resolutions each year include lose weight, eat healthier, save more/spend less, and spend more time with family and friends. While all of these resolutions focus on mental, financial, and physical health, there is an important piece missing to the puzzle of wellbeing: wellness screenings.

By following the recommended screenings for your age and gender, you are taking a proactive approach to your health that may prove to be a life-saving choice. Wellness screenings allow you to better understand your body — what is normal and what is not — as well as identify potential risks before they become bigger health issues that take more time, money, and resources to fight.

Which wellness screenings do I need? How frequently do I need these tests?
Your health and family history will determine what screenings are appropriate for you. See the chart below to find out what wellness screenings you should consider.

Do I need a doctor’s order?
Most screenings require an order or approval from your primary care physician before you can schedule the exam. However, mammography tests are the exception. If it has been a year since your last mammogram, you can schedule your screening mammogram without a physician’s order. Genesis’ outpatient imaging centers offer the latest technology in breast cancer detection including 3D mammography. Call the Genesis Imaging Centers at 563-421-XRAY (9729) or 309-281-5000
today to set an appointment.

Every individual’s body is different, and you should discuss your health risks and options with your primary care physician. Catching a lump or abnormality early is the key to a speedy and smooth recovery. Talk to your doctor to find out what wellness screenings are appropriate for you and stay proactive about your health in 2017.
