The health care industry moves at a rapid pace, and Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialists, PC, known as “The Group,” has moved with that rapid pace since the recent opening of their new 6.5 million dollar building on the corner of 53rd Street and Eastern Avenue in Davenport.

The new building was built by Russell Construction and has been in the planning and building stages for two years. “With all the changes in the health care industry, especially the moving to electronic medical records, we’ve been planning on building a new building for a few years. It’s wonderful that’s it’s been able to come to fruition,” says Dave Larson, practice administrator for The Group.

The Group originally first opened their doors in Paul Revere Square in Davenport almost 38 years ago. Over time, with the growth of the practice, the space kept expanding and getting more and more spread out. “The old building had become a giant maze, which just wasn’t efficient for the practitioners or patients,” says Larson. “We needed to find a solution.”

The old facility was 15,000 square feet, and the new building has increased in size to 24,000 square feet. “With the new layout, we have been able to increase doctor and nurse efficiencies in seeing patients; plus, the layout and design is more friendly for both patients and employees,” stated Larson. “The building has not only increased in size, but is also energy efficient with LED lighting, water retention, optimizing natural lighting, and offering free Wi-Fi for the patients to use.” All the wiring was completed for any future changes in technology to make practitioners at The Group more adaptable for future health care changes.

One of the reasons our office is called “The Group” is because of the wonderful combination of practitioners we have to fit your needs. You may see any one of the six board-certified OB/Gyn physicians, five certified nurse-midwives(CNM), three women’s health nurse practitioners, or our physician assistant for your gynecology needs. If you like, you may choose one practitioner to see for your annual exams and visits. Even if your usual provider is not available, there is always a skilled practitioner happy to help you address any unplanned health issues. You can choose to have your pregnancy followed by either the physicians or nurse midwives. With this group setting, you are able to rotate through the providers of your choice, so you will get to know each of them prior to your birth. There will always be a designated MD and CNM on-call and separate MD’s and CNM’s in the office each day, to serve you in the best way possible.

Using the most advanced procedures to increase the likelihood of conception, we are dedicated to providing the finest medical care with respect and compassion for our patients at all times.

A couple is considered infertile after actively seeking pregnancy for one year. When pregnancy does not occur, fertility testing is started.

For the female, testing consists of checking for ovulation. This can be done by using an ovulation predictor kit or checking basal body temperatures daily. Blood tests that check hormone levels and special x-rays are also done. For the male, a semen analysis is obtained. If needed, fertility medications are used for both men and women. These medications cause a woman to ovulate and increase a man’s sperm count. Intrauterine insemination is a procedure where the man’s sperm is inserted into the woman’s uterus after being washed in the laboratory. The wash procedure clears dead sperm and debris from the sample thus enhancing the viability of the sperm. Fertility medications are used alone or in conjunction with intrauterine insemination.
