Secrets of Living a Long Life
January 07, 2020
By Paige Fairbanks-Gunn, Koelsch Senior Community Properties
November 27th was a very special day for the staff and residents at Copper Creek Inn and Memory Care in Chandler. They were busy preparing for a party… a very special party to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident Vaudis Peterson.
Vaudis was born in Mountain View, Idaho and is the youngest of three siblings. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and raising her three children, two sons, and a daughter, although she did work as a waitress for a short time. Vaudis loves to sing and visit with others, especially her family and friends from the Latter Day Saints church. She also LOVES chocolate chip cookies!
I always look forward to seeing Vaudis. She is a caring soul; always wanting to help others and always smiling. She has that kind of smile that simply lights up a room. Recently, I had the opportunity to seek her wisdom as a centenarian and learn a few of her secrets of life.
What is the secret to live to 100 years?
“Clean Living—Deny yourself things that aren’t good for you.”
Words of Wisdom
“Be the kind of person who you would like to be around… a good person.”
What is your advice for good life?
“Be honest with yourself and others.”
What is the most important thing to do every day?
“Pray and be thankful.”
What is the secret to finding true love?
“What makes you think I have found it!” – Saying with a big smile.
What is something you really want to do?
“Meet my parents in Heaven so I can get to know them better.”
