Is Your Body’s Check Engine Light on?

As we begin a new year, it’s time to take a look at how things are running. Just like your car needs regular maintenance, it’s even more important your body is maintained. You can always buy a new vehicle, but you only get one “YOU.” Above all else, your health matters. The problem is, we tend to focus on everything else and by the time we take a look at our own health needs it’s may be too late—your body’s preverbial engine light is on.
Let’s take a look at some of the signals your body gives you.
It could be a simple solution if you are feeling this way. Like with a car, the simple things can affect performance. Low tire pressure, not changing the oil in a timely manner, and/or the air filter being clogged with dust restricting air flow to the engine, all could affect a car’s performance.
With our bodies it could also be the simple things. Dehydration, a nutritional deficiency, not getting enough sleep, and hormonal imbalances can all cause a person to feel sluggish. If you feel unusually sluggish for an extended period of time, it may be time for a checkup.
Not feeling right?
You know when you drive and something is just not right. Maybe your car pulls to the left or when you hit the gas there is a lag. Maybe there is a noise that wasn’t there before. Regardless of what it is, you know something isn’t right, but you can’t put your finger on what it is.
Our bodies can be much like the example listed above. You wake up one morning and “something” is just not right or you’ve been having this crummy feeling for weeks and it won’t go away. I mentioned before about getting a checkup. Even if everything seems to be ok, it’s smart to see your doctor annually. It’s better safe than sorry! A simple blood test can reveal a lot about your current health. Believe me, I hate needles too! It will only take a minute, but it’s a minute that could help get you on the path to fix your health problem or even save your life!
What’s the point?
The point is, you are more important than your car but many people seem to worry more about their car’s maintenance and ignore what’s most important. Don’t wait till something is wrong or it’s too late. Just like you take your car in for oil changes and regular maintenance to keep it lasting longer and remain reliable, so should you get your regular check-ups, eat a balanced diet (healthy eating habits), and exercise consistently.
