In 2017, Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery started an annual event “ Blessing of the Animals.” The event is held every October on the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi Day. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and many churches offer blessings on this day. These blessings may occur indoors or outdoors. Our animal blessing is held outside on our Field of Celebration. Many people bring their dogs, cats, turtles, and even pictures of their pets if it is difficult for their pets to attend the blessing. We encourage people to come out and enjoy this day with us. We just ask that all pets are either crated or on a leash.
Monsignor Pinti from St. George’s Catholic Church officiates our Animal Blessing. He always has a beautiful service and then blesses all of the pets. It is such a sight to see all these animals together in one place and they are all so well behaved. We started this at Mountain View because we know people love their pets and to some, the only family they have. Animals provide so much love and emotional support to people every day and we wanted to have a special day for these pets and their human companions.
You are invited to our 3rd Annual “Blessing of the Animals” on Friday, October 3rd, 2019. Our service starts at 10am and after the service Father Pinti will bless all the animals. We will also be doing paw prints for the animals. After the service we will have light refreshments and snacks. We hope you will join us and come out to have your pet blessed.
