Educating patients on the benefits of
chiropractic care, Spiers Chiropractic Pain & Wellness Center
combines preventative care with proper diet and fitness to assist
patients in achieving their wellness goals.
Since October 2001,
Dr. Denton Spiers, DC, and the health professionals at Spiers
Chiropractic Pain and Wellness Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, have
combined professionalism and expertise to help individuals achieve a
better quality of life. Dr. Spiers’ passion for healing and preventing
spinal injuries and symptoms derives from his own experience as a
teenager who sustained debilitating pain after straining his back
lifting heavy garbage bags as a busboy in high school. Unable to put his
shoes on and barely able to dress himself, he sought treatment from his
Truly inspired by his amazing
results, Dr. Spiers decided to pursue a career in chiropractic and in
1994 entered Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, as a
pre-med student. After working as an associate doctor for three years
and then opening his own practice in Hattiesburg in 2001, Dr. Spiers
built Spiers Chiropractic Pain & Wellness Center in September 2007.
Total wellness is the heart of Dr. Spiers’ chiropractic career. To
that end, his practice combines chiropractic care with nutrition
counseling, fitness guidelines, and other services to aid in the healing
process. “My goal is to help people achieve a healthy way of life,”
says Dr. Spiers. “If people seek consistent chiropractic care as part of
their health routine, many serious health problems will be prevented,
and the intensity of pain will be much less.”
Chiropractic Care and Natural Healing
The spine is composed of 24 movable joints called vertebra. When
subjected to overuse or stress from everyday life, work or sports,
spinal subluxations, a condition that occurs when bones become slightly
misaligned or dislocated, may develop, causing pain and disrupting nerve
flow to other areas of the body.
Dr. Spiers corrects spinal
subluxations by making spinal adjustments. “Chiropractic deals with
whole body alignment and balance issues,” explains Dr. Spiers. “Problems
may even affect a patient starting from the feet up: one imbalance
leads to another, which leads to compressed, irritated nerves and pain.
Chiropractic adjustments mitigate pain and muscle spasm in patients,
increase a patients’ range of motion, decrease nerve irritability, and
improve balance and overall function. Proper spinal alignment enables
the body to heal itself without surgery, medication or injections, a
process of natural healing.
“Chiropractic is the world’s largest
alternative medicine. It is the best non-invasive, drugless approach to
healing and health,” says Dr. Spiers. “More people are searching for an
alternative to drugs and surgery. In my opinion, a person’s approach to
their health problems should be chiropractic first, drugs, and then
Experiencing Total Wellness
The main focus of chiropractic is achieving total wellness. Says Dr. Spiers: “Chiropractic equals wellness!”
Patients can achieve total wellness through healthy eating, fitness,
and preventive care. “The big difference between chiropractic and
medicine is that you don’t have to be experiencing symptoms to make an
appointment to see a chiropractor,” according to Dr. Spiers. “Making
appointments with a chiropractor for periodic spinal adjustments can
help prevent serious problems from occurring in the long run. It’s
similar to taking a car in for a tune up to prevent problems and ensure
that the car continues to function as it should. Our bodies are the same
way. The everyday stresses of life take a toll on our bodies and build
up over time. Preventive maintenance is key to ensuring our bodies
continue to remain in good health.”
Preventive maintenance is
especially important for the body’s nervous system, the “master system”
that plays a significant role in determining the health of the entire
body and controlling the functioning of all the body’s systems and
organs, according to Dr. Spiers. Maintaining proper spinal health, he
insists, should be a part of every person’s health routine.
addition to chiropractic, proper diet and exercise can also help
individuals achieve total wellness. For this reason, Spiers Chiropractic
Pain and Wellness Center offers a 4,500 square foot Fitness Center,
open 24/7, next door to Spiers Chiropractic Pain & Wellness Center.
Patients are welcome to use cardio and strength training equipment as
well as a 750 square foot open aerobics room. Visit

Spiers Chiropractic Pain & Wellness
Center also provides patient guidelines for healthy eating with
nutritional counseling. “We provide specific recommendations on
nutritional supplements and healthy food choices to enhance our
patients’ return to optimal health,” explains Dr. Spiers.
services are also designed to help patients achieve their wellness
goals. Therapeutic deep tissue massage therapy and myofascial release
techniques, ultrasound, cold laser, interferential electrical muscle
stimulation, mechanical decompressive traction therapy, cryotherapy,
moist heat therapy, and rehabilitative and corrective spinal home
exercise programs help patients heal and achieve their health goals.
Knowing What to Expect
Individuals may set up an appointment with Dr. Spiers and his staff
by calling 601-261-9495. After completing a patient form in the New
Patient Center, patients will meet with Dr. Spiers for a consultation to
discuss the problem and the potential treatment options.
“I sit down with my patients, listen carefully to their concerns, and tell them what they should expect.”
A complete chiropractic and X-ray examination follows the
consultation. The examination encompasses standard neurological,
orthopedic, postural and physical tests with patients’ consent. Dr.
Spiers then presents a report outlining a specific treatment program to
meet patients’ needs. Following the initial appointment, patients can
choose to begin their first treatment.
Three Phases of Treatment
Reducing pain and improving function encompasses the initial
treatment phase. “Most people are under the assumption that if they
don’t feel any pain there is nothing wrong with them,” explains Dr.
Spiers. “But pain is not the problem; it’s the warning signal telling
you something is wrong.”
The second phase, rehabilitation,
assists patients in developing strength and flexibility. “In order to
prevent a rapid recurrence of symptoms, it is necessary to continue
receiving care even though your symptoms are gone,” says Dr. Spiers.
Maintenance, the final treatment phase, encompasses routine
chiropractic care that helps keep the body in optimal condition.
Positive patient outcome is the goal of Spiers Chiropractic Pain &
Wellness Center, according to Dr. Spiers. “Seeing patients come into my
office in intense pain and watching them get off my table with a smile
on their face saying: ‘My pain is gone!’ is very satisfying. I know what
it’s like. I’ve experienced the knife-like pain in my back from my own
injury, and I think it takes a certain amount of sympathy and compassion
to do this job well. For this reason, my practice is very personable.
You’re not just another patient. We care about you and want to see your
health completely restored. I pride myself on providing the best care
possible so you’ll leave my office feeling better and want to refer your
family and friends so they can feel as good as you do. Come give us a
try, you won’t regret it!”
