Working with the community... for a healthier community.

A Matter of Taste A New Dining Experience Awaits You at Generations at Ahwatukee

  July 07, 2017

After much planning and anticipation, Generations Senior Living will finally be opening their doors later this summer in Ahwatukee. This unique senior living community will continue to enrich the lives of seniors, bringing generations together under one roof to create memories and wonderful life experiences. Generations at Ahwatukee is the company’s second property, with Generations at Agritopia in Gilbert as the first which opened in July, 2014.

A key component of quality of life always seems to focus around the kitchen table. The social banter that occurs around a table of friends and families when dining together creates lasting memories. Generations has taken that love for social dining and built a community filled with a variety of venues and decadent dining experiences.

tūk’s Restaurant, open to the public
If you think Generations at Ahwatukee will be just another run-of-the-mill retirement community, you’re in for a huge surprise! Generations has created a stylish, fast-casual eatery, named in honor of  local urban village: tūk (tūkee Urban Kafe). Cara Baldwin, Generation’s Vice President of Dining Experiences began working on developing the concept for tūk back in 2015. “I was so excited to finally have a senior living community merge with a modern, public restaurant. While it’s true that some senior living communities have cafés that are open to guests, tūk’s counter service will be open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, serving tapas, beer, wine, and specialty cocktails.” tūk’s design has an urban-industrial feel with large glass garage doors that rotate open to allow a blending of indoor and outdoor dining with a panoramic view of South Mountain.

tūk dining offers endless options
The tūk menu concept is “small bites” ordered in just the right quantity you would like, or complete meals served in a single bowl, available in different sizes. “This concept is great for sharing, eating alone, or afternoon snacking. Mix and match multiple items, creating your own smorgasbord for family and friends to enjoy,” says Baldwin. Menus and wine selections in tūk will be refreshed weekly to attract repeat visitors. Morning coffee lovers, you are in luck! There will be a full-service coffee bar serving specialty espressos and lattes, just the way you like! Come try the nitrogen-infused cold brew too. Generations will be using the finest quality, locally sourced and roasted coffee beans.
Christy Neal, Executive Director for Generations at Ahwatukee, stated, “We’re so excited to offer something so special, tailored towards our local active seniors. tūk is the perfect gathering place to meet up with friends after a spirited game of Pickelball, or meet new friends and hang out to play cards, Mahjong, or trivia.”

More dining choices
In addition to tūk, Generations offers a delectable breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Crave, the main dining room. Menu offerings change daily, weekly, and monthly, to please even the most capricious palates. Entreés are prepared fresh and made to order. The kitchen was also designed to be visibly open to the patrons in the dining room, who can enjoy watching the executive chef as he creates something new and delicious. Generation’s executive chefs are culinary graduates who create unique dining selections, have a flare for working with independent living and assisted living residents, and maintain the strictest of dining standards. Let’s not forget the warm hospitality of the full-service wait staff who ensure all of the residents and guests are completely satisfied with their meals and service. The dining team will quickly learn residents’ unique preferences, so meals can be prepared just right.

The menus in the main dining room will also identify entreé selections that represent great choices to accommodate some special diets or personal health goals. Residents will know at a glance which entreés contain low salt, low fat, or low sugar. Residents who wish to splurge a little will hear no complaints from the Generations dining staff; after all, resident choice is paramount to living at Generations. Even meal times are the choice of residents. Early birds and late risers and everyone in between will be pleased with their dining options.

Meet our chefs
Executive chefs always enjoy being in the front of the house and going the extra mile by hosting the Monthly Chew (food reviews and informal chats) with residents. Residents are encouraged to suggest new menu selections, provide feedback on their dining experience, or take a taste of something new to come. They can even provide a favorite family recipe for the chef to duplicate!

For a more al fresco dining option (complete with the unmistakable aroma of summer BBQ), the Veranda Grille is available seasonally, serving fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the farm to the outdoor grill. “We started this concept last year at Generations at Agritopia, located in Gilbert. The menu is expansive, including an array of appetizers, salads, main entrées, and a dessert. The Veranda menu is complemented by featured wines and spirits. This has become one of my favorite dining venues as it allows residents and guests to eat outside, soaking up the sun and hillside views,” says Baldwin.

For a less formal venue and meals on the go, the Village Bistro will be available for snacks, fresh fruit, flavored iced teas, and hot coffee or cocoa. If you like an occasional midnight snack, you’re in luck! Self-serve beverages and snacks will be available 24 hours a day. The Village Bistro also has additional outdoor seating in a quaint courtyard, with a fireplace and tranquil fountain close by. Residents can begin their day at the Bistro with an amazing continental breakfast, made fresh in house every morning.

Food and tasting socials
For a more sophisticated dining experience, Generations residents can also choose to attend a wine-pairing event or join the “Whiskey of the Month” club, both hosted inside the well-appointed En-fusions Wine and Spirits Clubroom. Residents won’t want to miss the couples-only or singles-only events, where great companionship is best served warm. The Top Hat Tea Room is the spot for Generations High Tea events. With lavish fuchsia décor, it will be a favorite spot to chat with new and old friends while sampling specialty teas and savoring finger sandwiches, scones, and petit fours.
